Which country is the smallest?

The smallest country in the world is Vatican City. It is located on 108.7 acres (or 44 ectares, which is not even half a square mile) in the city of Rome, Italy.
Vatican City is where the central government of the Roman Catholic Church is located. The home of the pope who is leader of the Church is also located there. About 850 people are citizens of Vatican City, which is ruled by the pope, though a governor and a council actually run it. Vatican City has its own money, postage stamps, flag, and diplomatic corps. Monaco, which is less than one square mile (around 2 square kilometers) in area, is the second smallest country in the world.
